Chiswick - Magnificent Creatures!

We’ve had a fantastic and calm week in the forest, embracing both the rain and the sunshine. This week, we were delighted to welcome our holiday campers back to the woods. It was heartwarming to see so many familiar faces returning for some forest adventures.

Throughout the week, we spent a lot of time on adventure walks, searching for the elusive Gruffalo and discovering his possible hiding spots. Along the way, we spoke with the friendly gardeners about all the flowers and plants we could see, learning more about our beautiful surroundings.

One of the highlights of our week was learning all about dragonflies. The children were fascinated as we explored the anatomy of these amazing insects. We learned that dragonflies have two sets of wings, large compound eyes, and slender bodies that make them expert fliers. We even spotted some dragonflies during our walks, observing their graceful movements and vibrant colours!

Inspired by these magnificent creatures, we used our creativity to make our own dragonflies using natural materials such as sticks, leaves, and maple seeds. The children decorated their creations with different coloured tapes, adding their unique touches to each dragonfly. This hands-on activity helped them understand the structure and beauty of dragonflies in a fun and engaging way.

Throughout the week, we balanced our learning with plenty of play. From splashing in muddy puddles to basking in the warm sunshine, the children revelled in the joys of outdoor exploration. It was heartwarming to see their enthusiasm and curiosity as they engaged with the natural world around them 🌦️.
