Chiswick - Insect Investigations

Insect investigations and utterly butterly bird feeders!

We’ve had insects galore this week! Ant nests, coloured beetles, spiders webs, incoming cocoons and of course caterpillars. Chiswick’s caterpillar friends have grown so much since they arrived at their new home, and our adventurers have LOVED watching them munch on their snacks and grow, just like a character from one of our favourite books!

Speaking of caterpillars, it’s oak processionary moth season in our forest so we switched up our week and headed inside whilst the gardeners did some spraying. Our indoor day bought us running, drawing, counting and an interesting interpretation of a puppet show. Performed from the roost of our outdoor climbing frame.

Our adventurers have been immersed in nature this week and even provided some yummy snacks for our friendly birds. Dipping, spreading and smearing butter into and onto a variety of pinecones, and rolling them in bird seed had us swarmed with wildlife. Our observation station was the log circle and we watched in awe at the bird seed fest!

Joke of the week:
Who do insects call when they need something fixed?

Mainten-ants!!
