To ensure that we haven’t been exposing ourselves too much to this glorious sunshine we have been playing a lot in the dense and thick woodlands of our camp. This was a perfect environment for this week’s adventures. With so many logs and large sticks laying around, our children were very creative turning them into all sorts of constructions. We had an ice-cream shop, a prison for the educators, a kitchen, ghost trap, a secret hideout and a perfectly functioning see-saw that was a centre of attention for the entire day. One of the most popular things this week however, was the ghost that keeps on visiting our camp. He is a bit of a trickster and loves pushing children and the educators so they fall down and tumble for no reason.
Several educators and children tumbled on the floor out of nowhere, so we decided that the only logical explanation for it was that the cheeky ghost had returned! We wasted no time and some of the children quickly put up a trap that was going to catch the ghost. The rest of us had built a secret hideout where we could safely observe if the ghost was going to fall into the trap. We waited and even used some apples as a bait but the ghost was smarter than we thought. Instead, he pushed down our toilet tent! After a few other attempts in trying to catch the ghost, we sang him a goodbye song and that seemed to have done the trick. He was gone for the rest of the day but we truly enjoyed planning and building with our friends.
One of the highlights of our week was building a den next to our camp. We have built many dens and hideouts in the past, but this one was rather special. We gathered as many logs and sticks as we could possibly find around us. We had to communicate and discuss with our friends how long and wide the logs should be to withhold the weight and to cover the areas we wanted to protect us from the rain. We used a tree to be our ‘foundation’ for the den and built around it. To make it cosy and waterproof we put a tarp on top of it which made it look very homely. Some of our friends decided that the den needed a good sweep before we could move in and use it. That quickly turned into a decorating session where we used pinecones, leaves, colourful feathers and ribbons to hang in our lovely hideout. The result was spectacular, and the rest of the group joined in. Asia wanted to test if our den building was top-notch and if the den was going to keep us dry in the event of rain. She poured some water on top of the den whilst we were all sitting in it in hope of making us wet, but there wasn’t a single drop of water on us! We can call that a very successful den-making session.
We wish you all a lovely weekend and hope that you can enjoy this lovely weather! See you all next week!
