At last we can say that the summer is back again! After a rainy Monday we’ve been blessed again with some glorious sunshine and are truly enjoying the warmth of this splendid weather. Our base camp often feels slightly cooler than the rest of the gardens as we are always covered with some shade by the canopy of thick trees. So on sunny days we make sure that in the morning when the sun is still quite low we venture out to get some vitamin D and to enjoy the lovely warm temperature.
When we were not out and about there’s always been something exciting going on at our basecamp. We’ve noticed that a lot of the children love cutting materials with scissors so we created an activity where the children used wooden shapes to draw patterns that they would then cut out. The fun part was that the material used was a sticky vinyl so we had some lovely creations being produced including some colourful and spectacular collages.
One of the highlights of our week was building a den next to our camp. We have built many dens and hideouts in the past, but this one was rather special. We gathered as many logs and sticks as we could possibly find around us. We had to communicate and discuss with our friends how long and wide the logs should be to withhold the weight and to cover the areas we wanted to protect us from the rain. We used a tree to be our ‘foundation’ for the den and built around it. To make it cosy and waterproof we put a tarp on top of it which made it look very homely. Some of our friends decided that the den needed a good sweep before we could move in and use it. That quickly turned into a decorating session where we used pinecones, leaves, colourful feathers and ribbons to hang in our lovely hideout. The result was spectacular, and the rest of the group joined in. Asia wanted to test if our den building was top-notch and if the den was going to keep us dry in the event of rain. She poured some water on top of the den whilst we were all sitting in it in hope of making us wet, but there wasn’t a single drop of water on us! We can call that a very successful den-making session.
We wish you all a lovely weekend and hope that you can enjoy this lovely weather! See you all next week!
We hope you all have a lovely weekend!
