Chiswick - Daffodils, woodpeckers and sunshine

Daffodils, woodpeckers and sunshine

The chillier weather earlier in the month now seems like a distant memory as the Forest and its’ Folk have been thawed and cheered by some very welcome springtime sun!

The sudden change in weather has provoked lots of thought and discussion on the shifting of the seasons and what it means for our environment. We have noticed daffodils and wildflowers bursting through the grass, butterflies and bees waking to deliver pollen and healthy green leaves returning to our trees.

The letter cards have been out in full force, matching them to our favourite things and people. We had a long session of matching them to our bird cards and later spotted different birds in the wild. So far, we’ve found robins, magpies, crows, wood pigeons and woodpeckers.

The meadow has acted as a jail for all of the bad guys our diligent police people have rounded up and arrested! Although every now and then the criminals turn the tables and put the police in instead!

This week fishing has been a popular pastime with lots of hopeful anglers casting their lines in search of a bite. Rods have been crafted from sticks and twine and some even attached with bait. Many a tiddler have been caught but when the lakes were emptied the fishermen set their sights on educators and children!

Obstacle courses have been a fun and challenging mainstay of our week. Wobbly planks have made the courses especially dynamic sometimes being connectors and sometimes seesaws.

Our ice cream shops have been active as ever seeing a surge in popularity alongside the summery weather. The mud kitchens have been hard at work too and our Little Forest Folk-ers had a go at writing shopping lists for the things they were missing and recipes too, so that everyone can remember how to make that one cake that turned out really well.

"It is spring again. The Earth is like a child that knows poems."

We hope you all have wonderful weekends!
