Chiswick - Cooking Sessions!

Despite a few windy days, we have had another wonderful week in the forest! Our little explorers have been swinging high on the swing, working in a space cafe in the mud kitchen and counting grey herons at the lake. Here is a little about all the activities we have been doing.

Textile design in nature

This week we have been doing Tataki-zomé, which is a Japanese method for flower printing. We picked flowers and leaves in picnic land and put them on a piece of fabric, and then we helped each other to hammer on the plants to create beautiful prints. The day where the winds were too high to go outside, we took our textile design skills inside and we learned how to do wet felting and created colourful pieces of fabric.

Arts and crafts

We brought stones to the forest this week to do stone painting. The stones turned into all sorts of nature pictures and abstract art pieces. We also harvested flowers and leaves to make nature bracelets. The children practised their scissor skills while cutting the plants into small shapes for the bracelets, which turned into beautiful creations and everyone proudly showed around their new DIY accessories!

Cooking sessions

Peach pancakes and oat banana cookies with a drizzle of honey have been on the menu in the forest this week. The children have been whisking, cutting and showing off their great cooking skills. We have also practised our counting when pouring in different ingredients and dividing cookie dough. Thank you for the yummy, yummy food little chefs!

Adventure walks

Our adventure walks this week have been influenced by our activities, and we have had a focus on harvesting in the forest. We have had great talks about how to preserve the forest while picking flowers and how to always have an adult with you when harvesting food in nature. This week has been another blackberry party as the children created small baskets out of leaves to collect their blackberries in. On our blackberry hunt we found some lemon balm, which we all tried to taste. Not everyone enjoyed eating the lemon balm, but we could all agree the smell of the leaves was lovely.

Thank you for an amazing week everyone! We are already looking forward to more adventures next week.
