This week our Little Forest Folk-ers have quite literally been into, on top of, under, around and among absolutely everything! While educators have been encouraging children to use their bodies in a multitude of ways, be it small and controlled actions to make marks or huge sweeping movements in action songs, we have seen perseverance, independence and resilience in abundance and we are very proud of the little ones for getting stuck in!
Throughout the week, with support from educators, children have built enormous and ever changing obstacle courses, spider webs, swings and pulley systems to test their strength, balance, coordination and agility. One day at camp was dominated by construction site role play, with children making their own 'tools' out of sticks and string, navigating hazard tape to get 'onsite' and carry out their work and of course, always wearing the appropriate PPE in the form of shiny yellow hard hats! They also enjoyed 'site managing' using toy walkie talkies to count the children on camp, much like they hear their educators doing many times a day. Elsewhere, there were lots of opportunities to try out new arts and crafts techniques including different ways to manipulate paint using a variety of tools such as brushes, leaves and straws. On adventure walks and walking to and from camp we have been particularly interested in observing the changes in nature as the seasons turn and the air grows colder, seeking out and photographing mushrooms and bugs or looking for different coloured leaves, while reminding each other of some key rules of the forest: "No Picking and No Licking", "No Shaking and No Breaking" and "Be Kind and Gentle".
It has been an active and busy week for all and we wish all our children and their families a wonderfully restful and restorative weekend!
