Twickenham - Dragons, Knights and Imaginative Play

We have had a wonderful week in the forest, exploring fairy stories, literature and building up our language skills.

Castles of cardboard have sprung up in the forest and our knights have imaginatively created splendid shields and swords from delivery boxes. Masking tape dragons have swooped about our sky, breathing fire and billowing smoke. At one point the dragon landed in the forest and our Little Forest Folk-ers climbed aboard his back and flew up into the wide blue yonder.

The ashes (sand) of the dragon’s fiery breath in our shallow tuff trays has been used by our clever little ones to practise scribing the letters of the alphabet. Each child has tried to write the first letter of their names, with the older Little Forest Folk-ers challenging themselves by trying to write their whole names.

The mud kitchen pots and pans became helmets for the knights, but these were soon reappropriated by the castle kitchen staff who were not amused, they needed them back to cook up large quantities of food for the kings, queens, knights and other guests in the castle.

With a sprinkling of fairy dust, we also had toadstools and fairy wings appear in the forest alongside the knights as the children expanded their language and revelled in our library full of wonderful story books both old and new.

What a fab week, we hope you have wonderful weekends!
