This week, our young scientists and explorers have been deepening their knowledge of STEM with even more hands-on experiments and exciting discoveries. We kicked off with a fascinating lesson on liquid density. After a demonstration, our adventurers combined water, oil, honey, and glue in test tubes to see which liquids would sink or float. Through observation, they discovered that honey, being the densest, settled at the bottom, water found a middle layer, and oil floated at the top. It was a fantastic way to learn about density and weight differences in a fun, visual way!
Next, we moved on to an ink bleeding experiment. Using filter paper and colourful markers, our adventurers created unique designs, then added droplets of water with pipettes, watching as the ink spread out and separated into various colours. They even experimented with Skittles! Laying them in patterns and adding water, they watched as colours spread and merged. This activity turned into a huge exploration of colour, and our young scientists loved seeing how each colour transformed.
Our adventurers also tried their hand at wild cooking this week, baking bread and whipping up a sweet cinnamon-sugar butter spread. They measured, mixed, and kneaded dough, learning about the magic of yeast and the importance of letting it rise. While the dough proofed, they prepared a delicious spread by mixing honey, cinnamon, and butter, carefully working to get the perfect taste and texture.
To wrap up, we dived into a chilly experiment on ice melting points. Using salt, our adventurers learned about catalysts and how they speed up the melting process. They loved chipping and breaking the ice, eager to observe the effects of salt on melting speed!
It’s been another fun-filled week of hands-on learning, full of discoveries in science, colour, and culinary creations.
Have a wonderful weekend and thank you all for the enthusiasm and support!
