It has been a sunny week in Wimbledon this week with lots of signs of Spring!
Our Little Forest Folk-ers have enjoyed taking long adventure walks to the Beech Tree Forest. The children put on their sun hats, suncream and packed lunch to take with them. Along the way, they have enjoyed noticing the environment around them and the changes that the seasons provide for us. The children have noticed an increasing amount of dragonflies, insects and plants. On one of our walks, we found a red shelled beetle which intrigued us to explore further and find out what it was. We found out that it was called ‘The red-headed cardinal beetle’. We also revisited the frog pond, we noticed more tadpoles, pond snails and water spiders as well as ducks swimming in the distance!
Back on site, we have all enjoyed exploring the insects that we share the space with, one day we found a lady bird on a daffodil stem. The children quietly watched it as it climbed up and down the stem before carefully taking turns holding it, ensuring that we kept our palms flat to allow it to crawl around.
The bunny group have enjoyed making cress pots. They placed wet cotton wool at the bottom of the pot, before placing the cress seeds on top. The children had a wonderful time making this and are so excited to see them grow!
Meanwhile the fox group have enjoyed being creative and roleplaying a show. They used a tarpaulin tied between two trees to as a backdrop, sticks to represent the edge of the stage and leaves as tickets! The show was based around the story of The Little Mermaid.
It’s been a lovely week at Wimbledon filled with sunshine! We cannot wait to see what next week brings! 🦊🐰☀️🦆
