Off to Mars we go!
This week we have had some holiday campers join us in the forest. This means we have had some older siblings, children who used to come to the forest as well as some new faces. This has been ever so exciting. With different children means that so many new games have been introduced to the forest. Our little one’s love learning new ways to play and games to explore.
At Wimbledon we have been celebrating Valentine’s Day which some children have named “love day”. The craft opportunities have been endless such as creating cards and decorating hearts. Further we have enjoyed a sensory tray using rice and hiding exciting hearts inside. Then with tweezers the foresters try to fetch the hearts. We have also enjoyed others crafts such as making our very own paper boats and bookmarks made from recycled paper. We did this by ripping up packaging paper into small pieces, then rinsed with water and smooshed together. Finally, we added some flower petals and left to dry.
There has been lots of rain this week but that just means so many play opportunities. Big puddles to jump in, muddy paths to skate on and lots of extra water for play. To avoid turning our site in to a mud bath we have been out on lots of adventure walks. On one walk we made it to the ‘rocket tree ship’. We all climbed on and got ready to travel to Mars. Some children were drivers while others were making sure to fix anything that was getting broken during the long journey. Once we arrived on Mars and of course got our space suits on there was so much exploring to do. The forest continues to provide incredible inspiration for all sorts of play.
While there has been heavy rain, we have all been very excited to spot the first signs of Spring. On the meadow as well as on the walk to the forest some daffodil buds are beginning to bloom. Our foresters are so incredible at spotting these new flowers and being careful not to hurt them. We are all so excited for Spring to begin.
Another incredible week at Wimbledon. Have a great weekend!
