Wimbledon - Everything Tool Work and Festivities!

This week we have been spoilt for choice in activities at Wimbledon.

As we have two groups at Little Forest Folk Wimbledon, Bunnies and Foxes, we have created two tool work projects… bug hotels! This week both groups have practised their coordination, dexterity and controlled strength by making elder straws. Our little explorers used palm drills to hollow out coppiced elder branches. Many of our holiday campers are ex-Little Forest Folk-ers so they knew exactly what to do and the safety precautions we take, but for many of our newer adventurers, this was their first time drilling – and this didn’t stop them! They explored, tried and tested their techniques. Their first challenge was to secure the elder stick into the holder securely by turning the handle. This brought many smiles as they tested it by shaking it upside down! We now have many elder straws ready to tie together, after that, placing them into the bug hotels to provide shelter for little insects.

Another highlight this week has been our Halloween focused activities. We went on a ghost walk one morning after the children spotted one on the meadow creeping out of the imagination gate - it caused quite a fright! We played music to draw out the ghost and spotted signs of their existence… as explained by the children, “the ghost has turned the leaves white!” We saw more white objects, mushrooms, sticks and trees. As we returned to site, we spotted our ghost in the mud kitchen area! But don’t worry team, it was revealed that it was one of our members of staff - Polly!

Another creative activity was our potion making! The children used mathematical instruments to measure, pour and mix different ingredients together. They had to be careful though as some of the combinations of ingredients created lots and lots of bubbles!

What a fabulous week, we hope you all have a great weekend!
