Another great week has passed in the forest! The weather has been absolutely wonderful, and we have all enjoyed lots of sunshine in our camps and on our walks. Here are a few highlights from our week.
🍂Autumn leaves turning into beetles🍂
The autumn leaves are starting to fall, especially in our meadow in the forest. This week we all stood peacefully while watching them gently touch the ground. The children collected all the colourful leaves and turned them into little bugs and beetles back at camp.
🎃Counting pumpkins🎃
It is pumpkin season, and the children have been busy cooking pumpkin soup and pies in our mud kitchen. We have brought some small pumpkins to the forest for the children to practice their counting and mathematical skills. They had so much fun transferring them between baskets while counting. Well done everybody!
📚Black History Month📚
This week we have been reading the book “Speak up” written by Nathan Bryon and we talked about the importance of using brave words and speaking up. We created a big library in the forest with our books inspired by the library in the story. We separated the books into different categories and hung up teddies and signs to make our system visible for everyone. In the end we created our own signs out of sticks and cardboard, for the children to draw and write a message that they wanted to share with the world.
🌳Conker necklaces🌳
On our adventure walks this week, we have been looking for horse chestnut trees to find conkers. There are a few dotted around our forest, so we have been exploring every corner to find them all! The children found lots and lots and brought them all back to camp. They drilled holes in the conkers and practised their fine motor skills by pulling string through the holes. Their crafts turned into beautiful conker necklaces!
Thank you for a lovely week everyone! Looking forward to seeing you at the Halloween party next week! 🧙🏻♀️🧟♂️🎃
