Wimbledon - Bug Hunts and Sensory Balls

There have been lots of sensory activities this week in the forest. In bunnies the children enjoyed making flour sensory balls, these were so fun to squash and squeeze. Our little explorers made them by using a funnel to get flour inside a balloon. Then it was time for decorating! Some children added faces, some added colour and some even added the forest around them. In foxes there has also been sensory play, this time with a sensory tray filled with all different textures to explore. There was mud, flour, cornflakes, and water. The Little Forest Folk-ers had great fun touching and squishing each resource.

This week we have also been busy with bug hunts. We have had some new resources arrive in the forest including bug pots, magnifying glasses, and binoculars. These have been perfect for searching and investigating the mini beasts in the forest further. On one adventure walk the little ones went on, they took along the bug pots to fill. Snails, slugs, caterpillars, spiders and beetles were found and carefully placed within the pot. Everyone made sure not to shake the pots and put the animals back where we found them. It was very exciting seeing all these bugs so close.

Further in Wimbledon, we have been loving testing our hands and finger strength, one way we have done this is through using tweezers. In a large tray, lots of objects were placed under a covering of webbing and using the tweezers, the adventurers had to try pick them up and remove from the webbing.

A glorious week in the Wimbledon forest! 🌳
