Wimbledon - Animals Galore!

This week the forest has been alive with so many animals coming to visit site. As usual we have had lots of hopping bunnies and colourful parakeets, but this week we had an amazing visitor for the first time, a heron! On Tuesday morning some educators noticed a large grey heron land on our meadow, some children headed out and watched in awe as he wondered around our site exploring.

The little ones have also been spotting more creepy crawlies on site and this has inspired going on bug hunts. Equipped with magnifying glasses, binoculars and swatch books, the children headed out around the forest to see what they could spot. Using the swatch books, we were also able to identify the name of the mini-beasts and learn facts about them. There have been ladybirds, spiders, worms, beetles, bees and so much more. How amazing that we have such a natural way to learn and teach in our forest environment.

Both groups have been really into art this week which inspired bringing in a colour wheel and learning about what colours need to mix together to create new ones. The little ones had a go at creating their own colours and loved seeing the results, even if it mixed into a colour they were not expecting!

A great week at Wimbledon and we hope you enjoy the long weekend 🌲
