A Week of Colour!
Our second week of term with our new Little Forest Folk-ers and hasn’t it been great weather for it! The children are finding their feet and striding forward in their forest journeys.
As we come to the end of summer, we couldn’t let the blackberries slowly disappear without one last hurrah! On our walks in and out of the forest, the children have been picking blackberries for a creative activity with Tammy and Olivia. Our little explorers love colour, so we decided to use the berries to tie dye some material! One sunny afternoon at the scout hut, Tammy set up a station which inspired lots of little ones to run across the grass to look and join in. They smashed the berries and poured in water ready for the material. The children then took turns to mix the canvas bags into the berry water; dunking, swirling and pushing the bags down - it was important to cover the whole bag. Once dry, we are able to use these colourful bags for play and fun!
This week, the children have also showcased their creativity and imagination by being crafty with many different resources. Necklaces and bracelets have been made using dry pasta and string! All of our little adventurers developed their hand-eye coordination in this activity and showed off their fantastic fine motor skills! As well as this, ice skates have been made using sticks and twigs… and of course, skating lessons from our young experts! You did have to learn how to hold your breath at this ice rink as it was under water!
Finally, we have had our toy trains out this week and the children took it upon themselves to become freight trains! They created a train tunnel underneath one of our climbing trees and army-crawled through. They spoke about how fast they were going and what they were carrying, some even went as fast as 1000mph… watch out world!!
