Wandsworth - Wizards and Lizards

Another week at Wimbledon Common has come and gone. We have packed a lot into it and the children have all had a wonderful time.

One game that we have invented this week is 'Wizards and Lizards' (a working title)! This has created great and inclusive fun for all of the children to join in with. The wizard waves their arms and shouts: "Hocus Pocus, Alakazam!" At which point we shout out the name of an animal and everyone pretends to be that animal! The game has had us all hopping around the camp as kangaroos, fluttering as butterflies and soaring like dragons! It was very popular and will no doubt make a triumphant return next week.

We have also had a plethora of stories in the big tent when the rain came down on several occasions. We've circulated the books around and so we've had a chance to read some fresh tales to the children such as 'The Two Grannies.'

The children have also sat on the logs and pretended to be on the bus, with a boisterous rendition of 'The Wheels on the Bus' accompanying it. Some of our little explorers would grab a stick for a steering wheel whilst others used sticks as spanners to repair the bus when it broke down. The passengers were very patient and enjoyed some chatting before the bus was once again ready to depart.

By far and away the biggest undertaking this week was the tremendous work from our Little Forest Folk-ers in expanding their den. We have a makeshift den that the children love to sit under and we have moved it to a different space in the camp to create a bit more space for everyone. Before long, our little adventurers were in convoy, bringing over sticks and logs to bolster the den and it looks excellent. Now it's equipped with logs for sitting on around its perimeter and the children carried armfuls of bushy autumn leaves to pad out the roof! It may well keep having work done to it as an ongoing activity as everyone did so enjoy mucking in and building it up more!

We have been very happy with the week we've all had. The children have had a splendidly social week and there has been a lot of laughter and jovial play. We naturally look forward to next week. Until then, have a great weekend everyone!
