Wandsworth - Spirit of Adventure!

We have had a very fun time in our swampy and sludgy camp this week. The children handled the showers and streams of rain with inspirational fortitude. The weather has done little to deter their spirit of adventure!

One of the most frequent games this week has been the old classic of 'Hide & Seek.' The children asked for it personally with great enthusiasm and scattered themselves about when the countdown started. They also showed exemplary kindness to one another with their turn taking skills for counting and hiding! Great job, everyone!

We had many stories under the tarp as the deluge toppled down upon it. There was a wonderful tranquillity as the children sat attentively listening to; 'A Squash and a Squeeze'; 'It's a Wonderful World' and amongst others, a fabulous book catered to children full of excellent rhyming poems about the different seasons, which by popular demand, had repeated readings.

Our big tent was also a great refuge from the rain, where the children were able to come and enjoy the arts and crafts. Cutting and sticking galore!

On one of the drier days, we got the face painting set out and despite it being Halloween, the children chiefly requested unicorn faces and decorative paintings on their hands of ladybirds and rockets.

We didn't let the opportunities of Halloween go to waste though, and Jamie led a great activity with the children to empty out the seeds and slosh inside of the pumpkins so that it could be made into a spooky face. Some of the children rolled up their sleeves and worked on it by hand. Others used large sticks to scoop them clean. The end result was an empty pumpkin which could then be carved into a quintessential Halloween grimace! A great success!

Despite the rain, which was at times quite aggressive, we have all adapted and the children have had an incredibly active and brilliant week. We are thrilled to have seen them so happy. Until next week comes along, have a great weekend everyone!
