Wandsworth - reminiscing

When the Baltic weather from the week before finally departed, the much milder albeit rainier days were welcomed back with open arms as we were back to where we belonged... outside! The children and educators were very excited, and we had many learning opportunities and adventures.

We have seen lots of our wonderful old friends back in the forest this week too with some siblings joining us for camp! It was great to see the older children naturally setting an example to our younger cohort.

Red team have been concentrating on numbers. Educator Matt set out a brilliant activity where he challenged some of our older children to order number cards from 1-20. Our Little Forest Explorers used their teamwork skills to help each other when a number was missed. Matt adapted this activity to meet the needs of the younger children too, by using numbers 1-5. The best thing about this activity was seeing the children celebrating each other’s successes and cheering friends on!

We have been focusing a lot on democracy in camp this week, we have been taking a vote on many things that we do, from choosing which book to read, to deciding which direction to head towards on our adventure walks. Our Little Forest Folk-ers have shown a real understanding around the importance of valuing each other’s opinions.

We have enjoyed lots of adventure walks this week too! Red team have been setting off for a morning explore, and green team have been setting off after lunch. Green team enjoyed a visit to the witches’ cottage, where we balanced on a long piece of fallen trunk.

Red team were lucky enough to see Scrumpy, one of the resident horses on Wimbledon common, out in the paddock having a gallop! Our holiday camp children reminisced about seeing Scrumpy in the past, who remained a focus point for their play for the remainder of that day.

In camp, we had a visit from some enormous spiders, who left their giant spider webs attached to our trees, so we enjoyed climbing and balancing on them!

It has been a fun filled week, and we look forward to more adventures next week!

Have a wonderful weekend all!
