Wandsworth - “Night Monkey, Day Monkey”

This week we had some topsy turvy weather to contend with in the forest! We started the week warm, with some children asking to take their waterproof layers off as it was “warm like summer!”

By Thursday, the sky had opened its trap door and down came the almighty showers! Our site was boggy, but we used this to make muddy footprint tracks around our camp! We jumped, squelched and splashed in the mud, before heading into a tent for some snacks!

At the start of the week, one of our Little Forest Folk-ers expressed an interest in the “Night Monkey, Day Monkey” story. This lead to some great learning experiences revolving around night and day! We drew light coloured marks on light coloured paper with chalk to represent day time, and dark coloured marks on darker coloured paper with charcoal, to represent night time!

On Wednesday, we welcomed some new families into the forest to visit us and Educator Sam lead a whittling activity using potato peelers. Everyone had a wonderful time helping Sam find some elder, before having the opportunity to whittle it down to our desired size!

On Thursday, we turned our forest logs into a tractor! Children took turns to role play driving and sowing wheat, grain and maize! Logs represented wheels, passenger seats and a combine harvester!

We hope you’ve had a week as fun as ours, and we’ll see you all next week for more forest enjoyment!
