Twickenham - Year of The Dragon!

What another amazing week we’ve had in the forest!

This week, our Miranda Panda has been on an exciting adventure. Every day, she sent us a photo and a clue so we can guess where she is and follow along on her adventures. First, she sent us a photo of a shop with tulips and told us she is in a country where there are lots of windmills, and the country’s flag is red, white and blue. After looking at our atlas, we discovered that Miranda Panda is in the Netherlands! The next day, she sent us a picture of a troll, and told us she is in a country where there are lots of stories about trolls and people love to eat fish for breakfast. It has a red flag with a white and blue cross. Again we looked through our atlas and were amazed that Miranda Panda is in Norway where she boarded a ship to sail further up north towards the Arctic. She sent us more photos and stories of her adventures where she saw the northern lights, learned about the Sami people who live in the small islands in the fjords, and we were even treated to a beloved clock story!

This week we also celebrated Chinese New Year where we learned that this year is the special year of the dragon. We made a humongous dragon mask and we learned how to do the dragon dance. We slithered our way around the forest and shook our dragon heads from side to side while we sent off fierce growls into the forest, just like a dragon! We made lively music with pots and pans and shook bells while the dragons danced around the forest. We also learned how people celebrate Chinese New Year. We discovered that children receive gifts in small red envelopes that are filled with sweets and coins as a symbol of good wishes for the year ahead. We decided to fill up our own red envelopes with colourful red and pink rice, which is considered lucky when eaten for the new year.

We also welcomed new friends in the forest and helped them get settled in. We know how scary it can be when we’re somewhere new, so we all helped by being kind and gentle to our new Little Forest Folk-ers and explaining to them the rules of the forest to keep them safe. We also invited them to play our favourite games with us. We were really pleased they loved our secret garden, where we dug for treasures hidden beneath the earth.

We’ll be back next week with more stories of our amazing adventures in the forest!
