The children embarked on a journey of cultural discovery and self-reflection this week.
The week began with lively discussions about the Lunar New Year. Our little explorers learned about the Chinese zodiac and eagerly discovered which animal represents them. With enthusiasm, they practiced pronouncing each animal in Mandarin and expressed their excitement to welcome the Year of the Dragon. Inspired by the festivities, they crafted their own Chinese lanterns and marvelled at traditional silk and qipao garments from China.
As the week unfolded, our young adventurers delved deeper into their understanding of diversity and inclusion. Reflecting on their own backgrounds, they shared stories of their families' origins. With a map spread out amidst the trees, the children joyfully marked the places their families hail from, embracing the rich tapestry of cultures that make up our forest community. Using colourful tissue paper, they lovingly crafted flags representing their heritage, celebrating the beauty of their roots.
In addition to celebrating cultural heritage, our little ones have been actively engaging in discussions about their roles as stewards of the forest. With a sense of responsibility and camaraderie, they eagerly assist the adults with tidying up and reinforcing the rules of our space. Through gentle reminders and acts of kindness, they embody the values of compassion and care, fostering a nurturing environment for all inhabitants of the forest.
As we conclude another enriching week in our forest nursery, we are reminded of the boundless curiosity and innate kindness that flourishes within our young learners.
Have a lovely weekend!
