Wandsworth - Jubilee Jubilations

We began the week, as soon as doors opened, regaled by mesmerising accounts of fabulous jubilee street parties, with vivid descriptions of “lots and lots of different food” and colourful decorations everywhere. Talk of the Queen, and her “big house” continued, and we found a theme of castles and crowns took root naturally in play.

Educators supported children to make crowns and swords which were beautifully embellished. Older children focused on some great repeating patterns made of jewels and diamonds, which helps them to get ready for the understanding needed for the number lines, addition, and subtraction in reception. Children also helped to bind sword hilts in formulaic patterns too which helps hand control, and an understanding of how correct routines help us to create strong functional objects.

At the end of the week Dan even made a giant drawbridge door between two trees in the forest, which children loved hoisting up and down to let in Queens, Kings, and Knights!
