Although life in forest has been somewhat still and dormant this week with a sparkling blanket of frost decorating the ground, we certainly haven’t been! A team of superheroes and butterflies swept the forest early in the week as the costume bag was dug out and colourful capes and patterned insects soon began flying through the air.
In the afternoon the butterfly wings and capes were traded in, and we put our feet back on the ground and set out exploring, following a path in the sunshine with our dancing shadows following us closely behind.
The frost has brought the opportunity for lots of exciting sensory play exploration such as footprint trail making and the addition of crunchy leaves on the menu in the mud kitchen. Usual puddle jumping has been happily traded for ice crunching and shape hunting as the children investigated the intricate and unique pieces of crunched ice from the frozen ground. It’s glass like appearance was explored by holding it up to the light and investigating the forest with new eyes through this foggy lens. Hands were soon warmed with the offering of yummy hot juice at snack time.
The stack of ropes looped through two facing tree trunks were utilised creatively, for bouncing, climbing, swinging and looping arms and legs over to make a hammock!
Our cheeks haven’t been the only rosy things around this week, to the children's delight, a curious crew of robins have been spotted on site checking in on all the fun.
On Thursday we started the day a little differently, with the blue sky and sunshine too good to miss out on, we set out exploring again, enjoying our morning snack with a change of scenery. When we arrived at sunny hill, we were surprised to see it had been transformed for the day becoming ‘snowy hill’. As we reached its summit, we noticed some mysterious footsteps. Detective skills were used to work out where they had come from and who they might belong to. It was soon decided that the Gruffalo must be in town!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and we look forward to another great week in the forest ahead!
