Twickenham - Zones of Regulation!

This week, our Little Forest Folk-ers learnt about emotions by exploring the zones of regulation in the forest. Each zone represented a different spectrum of feelings, helping the children to understand and regulate their emotions.

Yellow zone: A place for feeling silly and excited. Here, the children used musical instruments to channel their inner enthusiasm and express their high-energy emotions creatively. There was the opportunity for them to make marks on a large paper to express all kinds of emotions they were feeling.

Blue zone: Designed for when our explorers felt tired or in need of comfort. In this tranquil area, gentle voices provided reassurance, and the children could relax under the shady trees, finding a peaceful retreat. We read books and the children told stories to each other. With the sunshine about, this area quickly turned into a pleasant picnic spot where the kids enjoyed vegetable patties with margarita sauce, yum!

Calm down zone: This zone was for when the children felt angry or frustrated. It offered a space to release those intense feelings through big body movements, allowing them to stomp out their emotions in a safe and controlled manner. The children made gigantic mud balls, pressing and pushing these emotions through their fingertips.

What a wonderful week in the forest!
