This week we were learning all about rocks and stones, here in the forest we don’t come across too many of these, so the children loved learning all about these natural materials and getting creative with crystal jewellery making and volcano experiments!!
Over the weekend a huge cave appeared in our forest. Our Little Forest Folk-ers loved settling down inside to read some of their favourite stories, ‘cave baby’ being at the top of the list of course! We also had our story stones laid out where our adventurers created their own wonderful stories. Another fun activity involved us using our stones for counting and a fun game of ‘noughts and crosses’.
Each day there was a dinosaur path laid out for our little explorers to follow, along the way exploring the textures of mud, rocks and stones and making time for some small world imaginary play.
Our craft table was busy as usual, we had grey egg cartons which looked like rocks and the children built tall rocky hills by carefully placing them one on top of another, until they fell. Our adventurers also made geodes with glitter, glue and paint mixed together and left to dry. The sparkling crystal effects were beautiful and exciting as we talked about crystals and semi-precious stones.
Our week ended in the sunshine with a meditation area where some children calmly balanced one rock upon a pebble, upon a rock, upon a rock and others lay down to watch the clouds!
Another wonderful week in the forest.
