Rich in Role Play
The slightly warmer weather this week has certainly brought some new rich learning experiences in the forest, with the children eager to settle at the creative table or getting stuck into role play in various different wonders.
We started off the week jumping onto our very own bus, having caught it from the Little Forest Folk bus stop. The driver ensured we had our tickets or oyster cards at the ready as we all clambered on set for our various destinations, including Heatham House, Twickenham and other familiar places to the children. The children continued their role play this week, morphing into fire men and women ready to tackle a large blaze using their special hoses. Not to forget the train on Thursday which the children quickly jumped on to, avoiding the doors shutting behind them, the driver whizzed them off to various destinations such as Twickenham and India!
Some children also decided to build their very own doctors’ surgery, kitting themselves in their doctor’s coat, gloves and mask to ensure they were ready to help their friends with any injuries or illnesses they may have incurred! It was amazing to see the children working together to move large planks, palettes and logs, ensuring they had a patient's bed, waiting room and examining table.
Meanwhile, at the creative table this week the children have been amazing at utilising the resources available to them. One day this week the children experimented with natural patient brushes, watching as they made different patterns on the paper. This soon turned into a dino delight as tiny little dino footprints were planted across the patterns. The children loved to observe the variety of different shapes of footprints that formed as they stamped them down.
On Thursday this week, the children put their thinking caps on as they worked together to find the various different letter cards for their names. It was great to see the children thinking about the different sounds in all of their names and establishing the difference between the kicking K and curly c. Tricky! Some children then had a go at writing their whole name. Fabulous!
We hope you all have joyful weekends, and we can't wait to see what next week has in store for us, thank you for reading!
