Twickenham - Owls, Mice and Friends!

What a glorious week we have had in the sunshine. We have braved the chilly mornings and settled into the day as the sun comes out and sparkles onto the forest floor. The trees have been swaying and sending us gifts of green and golden leaves. The children have noticed a number of different insects and animals inhibiting our forest. We have been sharing our love of reading and using stories to guide our learning for this week. The forest has been full of a few new faces as we take on some new two year olds and continue to say goodbye to some of our older children.

We have been continuing to build children's larger muscles as well as our fine muscles in our hands. This week we have been exploring painting, drawing and cutting. Children have been developing strength in their fingers and practising different ways of holding the scissors as they cut through materials of varying textures. Busy hands made owls, mice and other characters from familiar story books.

Our educators used a range of familiar books to guide the themes this week. We explored stories such as Owl Babies, The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom. We also celebrated the Chinese moon festival and spoke about the stories they told in different cultures. Children made comparisons between our story of “the man on the moon” and the chinese story of “the rabbit on the moon” .

This week we have welcomed a number of younger children to the forest and explored the uniqueness of our children.

We will sadly say goodbye to one of our lively Little Forest Folk-ers who has had a huge impact on her friends. A kind, caring and super helpful child who has made a number of great friends in the forest. We wish you well and hope all will be well on your journey out of London.

Thank you all for a lovely week. See you all again next week.
