Twickenham - Creativity and Collaboration!

It was a calm and tranquil week filled with creativity and collaboration.

Each week we set up a number of crates, tires and wooden planks for the children to build, climb and create with.  This week, the children unleashed their creativity and worked together to construct with imagination and intent. They spoke through their ideas with others and explained their thought process. To make sure the designs were sturdy, they carefully walked along their “buildings” and called out “safety check” as they wobbled along their creations. The children used crates to create a variety of imaginative structures, including obstacle courses and even an aeroplane, which led to a playful "flight" to Fiji. Gathering up their surfboards, they climbed into the “aeroplane,” strapping on their seatbelts and leaning back as the aircraft began to ascend.

The bug hotel was also a big hit, capturing the children’s interest. Children collected twigs, leaves and bark to protect and nurture the little forest creatures. This activity encouraged a lot of conversation around how to best cater for the little critters. A place for insects to eat, another for them to sleep and even a place to climb. Children created in a patient manner as the structure sometimes needed to be refashioned until it was sturdy enough to hold the insect creatures. A little green grasshopper loved their creation so much he popped in to check it out. The bug hotel also had a visit from a slug, a butterfly and even a family of ants.

As some of our children grow older, we observe a number of skills that they are now putting into practice. Significant development has been observed as older children begin maturing and taking on leadership roles, guiding younger ones during play. They are negotiating roles, working together to find solutions, and embracing more collaborative ways of learning. This cooperative spirit extended to sharing and encouraging others to participate.

The week was also marked by farewells to some children, while we welcomed new faces and even enjoyed visits from some of our older children who have moved on to new adventures.

Thank you for a lovely week. See you all again next week.
