This week, our theme brought us back to our natural roots, as we immersed ourselves in the wonders of the forest and let our imaginations flourish with the beautiful resources nature provides.
Our adventurers got hands-on with nature, creating bug hotels using sticks and leaves. They carefully counted rooms and developed an understanding of what’s needed to make a comfortable space. With great creativity, they made tiny beds, blankets, and pillows using leaves and soft wood, turning each room of our mini-beast hotel into an extravagant retreat for the forest’s smallest residents.
We also embraced our inner artists, using blackberries, leaves, and water to create natural paints. The children enjoyed crushing the materials down and mixing them in our mud kitchen, producing vibrant colours to decorate our logs. It was a messy and fun-filled activity that brought out their creativity while connecting them to the earth.
Our little adventurers took on the challenge of tree identification around our camp. With cut-outs and simple descriptions in hand, they wandered through the forest, learning to identify different trees, from sycamores to oaks. It was a wonderful way to deepen their appreciation for the diverse flora in our forest.
Craft time saw the children practising their weaving skills as they made numbers out of sticks. They carefully attached the sticks together, applying their counting skills to learn and identify numbers up to 10. It was a fantastic blend of creativity and learning, that helped reinforce their number sequence in a tactile and engaging way.
It’s been a week filled with exploration, creativity, and connection to nature. We’re proud of our adventurers for their enthusiasm and curiosity, and we look forward to more forest fun next week.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone!
