Crafty Creations

What a wonderful week we have had here at Little Forest Folk Twickenham with spirits running high and children’s cheers filtering through our camp. This time of year is always an exciting one for us as we begin to spot small signs of Spring as we slowly approach one of the richest seasons for exploring our natural world.

Our curious minds and obedient eyes have witnessed the small green shoots amongst the mud here at Twickenham and have enjoyed observing nature take its course as some eager bees begin to pollinate the early spring risers. We discussed as a group the different shoots we were witnessing including crocuses, snowdrops, bluebells and potentially some daffodils chasing the winter’s sun. The children enjoyed spotting the beautiful purple of the crocus flowers and we tried our best to watch our footing as we went about our forest adventures.

This week has also been filled with endless crafty creations as the children have enjoyed junk modelling, manipulating milk cartons, cardboard boxes and kitchen roll tubes into a variety of different models. These included a train, with cardboard carriages and felt tipped windows, a space rocket with a tube-shaped centre and a super pointy snout. One child also created their own titanic, using small tubes as steam pipes and a butter lid base. The children persevered as they tackled tricky tape, cutting it to the right shape to attach different features to their models.

We also celebrated a very special someone’s birthday this week, and the children and educators enjoyed showing Miranda just how fabulous she is as we joined together to sing her a happy birthday and share some of her delicious cake.

Later in the week, we joined together for a massive sing-a-long, one of our favourite activities here at Twickenham and the children enjoyed singing their favourite songs including “Rig a jig jig”, “Mr Clicketty Cane” and the sandwich song. It is wonderful to see the children so eager to remember the words and working together to make a marvellous melody.

Another joyous week in the forest here at Twickenham completed! We cannot wait to see what next week brings, spreading the love for Saint Valentine. We hope you all have wonderful weekends.
