Putney Heath - Terrific Tool Work!

Terrific Tool Work!

We ended last week with some creepy crawly cooking! The children enjoyed using fruit and vegetables to create different insects, cutting them up and layering them on top of a cucumber stick, sticking them down with some sticky honey. The children certainly enjoyed gobbling up their insects and licking the plates clean of honey!

The new week brought some exciting new adventures, and we began the week exploring a tarp den that had been set up on our camp. The children enjoyed some cosy and quiet story time under the tarp and others used the tent as a home and took turns to fall asleep underneath.

Further into the week we embarked on an exciting adventure to the roly poly hill which is a firm favourite here at Putney Heath. After enjoying our morning snack in the open field air, the children experimented with different ways to roll and run down the hill, being sure to negotiate their space so they didn’t bump into each other! We then made our way to the meadow where we spent the afternoon making twine and cow parsley creations.

Throughout the week the children have loved engaging in clay modelling, making insects, and animal homes. The children moulded and manipulated the clay between their hands to create the shapes they wanted. Rolling the clay into balls, long wiggly worms and small chunks, the children were able to create some amazing models!

Towards the end of the week, the children had the opportunity to make their very own recycled insects and dragons, using some tool work skills. On the way into the forest the children collected some sticks that they wanted to use in their tool session. The children then used a hammer and nails to secure bubble wrap to their sticks for the wings. Old coffee capsules and milk caps for eyes and sticks for legs. The children showed off their amazing control and strength whilst using the hammers and showed great listening regarding tool safety. These insects and dragons were incredible, and the children flew them around the forest and used them throughout their role play.

WOW what a wonderful week we have had here at Putney Heath. We wish you all a restful weekend!
