What another fantastic week we had in the Twickenham forest. Our new Little Forest Folk-ers are continuing to settle splendidly by taking on the challenge of learning to take care of themselves. With a lot of guidance, support and encouragement from their educators, the children have been steadily practising getting dressed on their own by finding their own way of putting their shoes on and persevering when finding it a little tricky. Some of our younger friends have taken on the challenge of learning how to use the potty –asking to go to the bathroom, learning how to wipe themselves and pulling up their pants and trousers all on their own. Our older friends have also taken on the challenge of role modelling how to take care of our bodies by demonstrating how to eat well during mealtimes and drinking lots of water.
While we’ve all been enjoying getting to know each other, we've been missing our friends and educators who have gone on to “big school”. In the morning, during circle time, we love to imagine what they’re doing at that same moment. The children love to ask, “what are our friends who have left us doing?” “Have they made new friends?” “Are they having a wonderful time where they are?” They also love to talk about fond memories they have with their friends and educators while they were in Twickenham. A particular favourite memory that gets mentioned every morning is remembering what an amazing climbing teacher Celine was!
This week we explored measurement and numbers which we all really enjoyed. One of our favourite activities was to measure how tall everyone is with our handy measuring tape and mark it on Miranda’s brand-new pole. We compared the marks to find out who are the tallest in the forest, and who are the shortest. Louise also led a super fun game where we explored sizes by pretending to be beans! We ran around the forest pretending to be small lima beans and big broad beans.
We’ve finished another beautiful week with numbers in our eyes, and we’ll be back next with another exciting update of our adventures in the forest!
