What a wonderful week we’ve had welcoming our mums, daddies, and carers into the forest as part of our Stay and Play week! We watched as they came through the gate looking very excited to join us in the forest and reminded them of some of our forest rules such as wearing a high viz and we also demonstrated our kind and gentle actions by inviting them to sit with us to have a snack.
We were so excited to show them our beautiful forest, which is looking even more lovely in the spring, and especially loved showing off our amazing plane tree, which is looking leafier with each passing day. They were amazed to find out that our special tree is one of the oldest plane trees in London! Then we took them on a tour of the forest and showed them how confident we are at climbing and balancing on our obstacle course and climbing frame.
We showcased our cosy book corner and invited our loved ones to read a story or two with us. After a calming read, we went over to the crafts table to demonstrate our marvellous crafting skills as we put our imaginations to work by making delicious pizzas, doughnuts, cakes, and buns with our salt dough. We also played a fun game of hide and seek - we were especially good at hiding as we are very knowledgeable of all the best hiding spots in the forest. As they said goodbye to the forest at the end of the morning, we were very pleased to see how much fun they had because they didn’t want to leave!
We also celebrated Earth Day this week to show our appreciation for our amazing planet. We made maps with the oceans and continents and learned about the animals and plants that we share this planet with. One afternoon, we found a bee that wasn’t looking too happy because it was too chilly for it to fly. We gave the bee a piece of orange which she gratefully drank the juice of. Then we covered her with a small clear box to warm her up and took her to the greenhouse to rest. The next morning, we checked to see if she was doing better and we were pleased to find that she warmed up and continued to enjoy the fruit we left her. As we let her go and watched her fly back to the forest to join her hive, we erupted in a cheer knowing she is safe and sound.
We will be back next week with more stories of our adventures in the forest.
