Putney Heath - Rockets

Rockets

We have had a very creative week here at Putney Heath and we started off the week celebrating Chinese New Year with some fantastic dragon making. The children used old egg boxes and other creative resources to create some fearsome, fiery dragons that they flew around the meadow.

Further into the week, the children gathered for a very explosive activity. The children all worked together to create two big rockets! The children took turns to pour some food colouring into some vinegar and then enjoyed watching one of our educators mix the vinegar mixture with baking soda. We prepared a launching pad on one side of the forest and waited in suspense until the rocket finally launched up into the sky. The children cheered with excitement and thoroughly enjoyed the whole activity.

The rocket theme continued later in the week when the children got stuck into making their own rockets, using toilet roll tubes, paint, tissue paper and other materials. The children worked extremely hard on these and enjoyed shooting them around the forest.

From clay lions and aeroplanes to wonderful weaving patterns the children took part in an array of different creative activities towards the middle of the week. The children used sticks, feathers, and stones to decorate their clay models and transform them into many different animals and objects.

We ended the week with an amazing tool session led by one of our educators. The children had the opportunity to make their own bow and arrows! The children very carefully used Loppers to cut a branch into the length of their choice and attached some twine to each end and pulled it tight to make the string. The children used some coloured yarn to wrap around the branch to make a bright and colourful handle to complete their bow. Some of the children then used sticks as arrows and tried to hit a target, showing off their amazing archery skills!

We have had such a creative week here at Putney Heath and we have all had so much fun. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to more adventures next week!
