Morden - Forest full of Colour!

Forest full of Colour!

It’s always such a treat to see the children’s creativity being expressed in different ways, and even in the winter months, we are all treated to colour and beauty every day in the forest! The children re-visited one of our old favourite activities which we haven’t done in a while, making beautiful prints out of leaves and different stencils with lots of different coloured paints! We used rolling pins and a jelly-printing kit to make our art and loved showing them off to our friends and family!

The explorers were super busy one morning digging and looking for treasure, when we started to find some small white stones - which the children thought could be dinosaur bones! So, we found some old paint brushes, and used them to brush the dust away to get a better look at them! One of the children taught us lots of facts about dinosaurs after they had visited the ‘dinosaur museum’ and taught us about being ‘palaeontologists’ while looking for fossils! This has sparked so much curiosity in what we’re finding as we dig, like cool looking stones and ‘man made’ plastic which doesn’t belong in the forest. We can’t wait to see what else we find as we dig!

As our forest explorers are getting stronger and stronger, we’ve been able to get more adventurous with the things we’re building! This week the children had a mission of collecting up as many long branches as they could find around the forest and building a ‘forest bridge’ across one of the paths! The children were using such great teamwork skills to make sure they were carrying the branches safely and talked to each other about where was the safest place to put the branches so that they wouldn’t wobble - “This place is too wibbly wobbly! Let’s turn it on its side!”

Last week, the children were very engrossed in role play around space travel, so this week, the climbing ladder was transformed into a Rocket Ship! Extra branches were tied to the top and bottom of the ladder, so the rocket had a pointy top, and rocket launchers on the bottom! As the children climbed, they could see further and further out into space, and we did our big countdown as they got to the top of the ladder, “Blast off!!”

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend, and we’ll see you next week!
