This week at Little Forest Folk Putney, the woods came alive with stories, creativity, and hands-on learning! We continued our theme of "Stories," and the children embraced the magic of storytelling, expanding their understanding through the use of props, scavenger hunts, and even tool work. It was a week filled with adventure, imagination, and new skills.
We kicked off the week by transforming our camp into an interactive classroom and doctor’s office inspired by the beloved story of Zog. The children eagerly decorated their own wings, embodying the spirit of Zog and his dragon classmates. As they explored their roles, they visited Princess Pearl’s wing repair clinic whenever a little "fix" was needed. This activity not only sparked their creativity but also encouraged them to work together and problem-solve, just like Zog and his friends.
Midweek, the children found themselves in a thrilling adventure, reenacting Peter Rabbit's daring escape from Mr. McGregor’s garden. With hearts racing, they navigated the "garden," using their quick thinking and agility to avoid getting caught. This story-inspired scavenger hunt allowed the children to practice their observation skills and work as a team, all while enjoying the great outdoors.
Later in the week, we introduced the story of Stickman, which served as the perfect transition into learning about tool work. With careful guidance, the children used potato peelers to whittle sticks, turning them into their very own "Stickman" characters. They adorned their creations with various fabrics, google eyes, and plenty of imagination, resulting in unique stick people to proudly take home. This activity not only enhanced their fine motor skills but also gave them a sense of accomplishment and pride in their handcrafted creations.
