Putney Heath - Forest Monopoly!

We've had another exciting week continuing our Measuring theme, solidifying our learning and discovering even more ways to explore maths in the great outdoors!

We kick-started our week with Forest Monopoly—a game inspired by our very own Putney Heath! Taking turns rolling the dice, the children counted their moves on the board, "purchasing" different areas of the forest, including Monkey Camp and Forest Camp. The exchange of money with the banker helped our adventurers understand transactions while reinforcing number recognition and basic maths skills.

Our measuring explorations extended to map-making! Using pedometers, the children counted their steps between key locations like the toilet, mud kitchen, and activity stations. This hands-on experience gave them a fun, physical way to grasp distance and spatial awareness.

Another highlight of the week was our game of boules! With tape measures in hand, our adventurers carefully calculated the distance between the target ball and their throws, fostering a healthy (and exciting!) competition to see who could land the closest.

Time was of the essence as we ventured into the world of analog clocks! We explored the hour and minute hands, discussed the difference between big hours and small minutes, and talked about our favourite times of the day—especially wake-up time and bedtime!

Our learning concluded with a height graphing activity! The children worked together to measure their heights, plotting them on a chart to visually see how everyone compares and how we grow over time.

It's been a fantastic week filled with numbers, measuring, and playful learning. We can't wait for next week's adventures!
