Blustery Winds and Baking Wizards
We ended last week with a day inside to shelter from the strong winds. We took the opportunity to be so close to the oven to do some actual cooking, in this case baking, with the children. Some children made the dough in the morning and once it had rested and rise each child made their own little pizza which they enjoyed with their lunch. The day was spent exploring all the indoor toys, playing board games, making collages, a lot of drawing, practicing yoga poses and planting some propagated pathos.
We started this week how we ended the previous one inside, as the winds started to calm down, but it wasn’t yet safe for us to go out and explore. Lots of activities went on throughout the day including baking a banana bread, a tool work session where the children cut some elder with saw and loppers and poked the core out to make beads which then were threaded into beautiful bracelets.
Once the winds calmed down, we all were excited to enjoy the great outdoors and we spent the rest of the week going on adventure walks around Putney Heath. One walk took us down to the pond where the children observed the wildlife and fantasised about what animals might be hiding under the surface of the water.
All Little Forest Folk nurseries are taking part in the Eco School project and as part of the keep Britain tidy pledge we went on a big litter picking walk around the Roly Poly hill. Some children picked up the litter with a glove and others kept track of the different litter we found on the special litter picking bingo sheet. We were all surprised that in such short time we managed to fill up a whole bag.
This week we were greeted by so many different weather conditions, and it is always great to see how the children find enjoyment out of any weather. Due to the strong winds at the start of the week the children found lots of sticks on the ground on our adventure walk which quickly became their magic wands and swashbuckling swords. They also enjoyed splashing in all the big puddles we found on our way and when it started to hail, they tried to catch some of the hailstones with their tongues.
