Welcome to the book shop!
We really love it when the children revisit an area of the forest which they used to love playing with. The shop area hadn’t seen much imaginative play in a while, but this week, the children opened a new book shop! The children started with bringing some books over from the reading area and selling them in exchange for special leaves and sticks, but we soon found that the books were getting a bit grubby and folded, so we decided to keep the reading books safe in the stables and make our own books out of card instead! We spent some time choosing the colours and folding them into the right shapes so that they would stand on the shelf of the shop. The children also talked about the titles of their books, and what they were about. Some were about their friends, some about their favourite animals, and some about the play they had during the day! It was such a lovely way to spend the afternoon!
We’ve been loving getting some Christmas activities rolling in the forest now that we’re heading into the festive season; so, this week we’ve been making our own little Christmas trees out of coloured lollipop sticks, little pom poms and coloured pens. The children arranged the sticks to make a triangle shape and dipped the pompoms in the PVA glue to attach their decorations; they really loved being able to decorate their very own little trees!
As our explorers always love the opportunity to build and get involved with construction activities, they loved using the crates we have to get creative and use them in their play to add to the environment with some bridge building! The children placed the crates across the growing boxes (as there isn’t anything growing in there now) and helped each other to make the bridges as safe as possible “let's move this log out of the way so we don’t wobble!” The older children also did a great job of leading and supporting the younger children across the bridge, by talking them through where to climb up, and holding their hands if they needed a little help!
The children have loved pretending to be animals in the forest this week, climbing like monkeys, jumping like rabbits, or helping friends like the dogs in Paw Patrol! One morning we put leaves in the children’s hats, so that they looked like animal ears, and asked them what animals they were going to be! We love offering small additions to add to the children’s play!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone! We’re excited to see you again next week!
