It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
We have been so excited to see our children embrace the holiday season! This week at Fulham, we have been singing Christmas carols, making decorations for our very special Christmas tree, and keeping our bodies moving to stay warm and dry!
Our Little Forest Folk-ers have been delighted with the decorations for the Christmas tree. Every day they choose what to do and which materials to use, using strips of paper and sticking them together with glue to make paper chains, colouring amazing drawings in cardboard and hanging on the tree.
We brought some tree cookies for the children to decorate, and they had the opportunity to use the double pinion hand drill to drill holes in them. Claudia and Ben did a wonderful demonstration to the children at circle time and the children listened attentively as they explained how to use the tool, keeping their hands behind their backs when not using the tool to stay safe and putting the tool away in the designated toolbox when finished. Some of the children had their turn using the pinion drill with the help of an educator and they were amazing! After seeing the cookie spin around (which meant that it was done), off they went to the next station to decorate their piece.
Christmas songs have been echoing throughout the day in the forest and we’ve had carol singing on our way to the Palace one morning with all the educators and children putting smiles on people’s faces as they walked by!
Pia, our lovely play worker, grabbed 2 ropes and the children all held on to become reindeers and fly around the forest sprinkling fairy dust behind them! Their giggles and clumsy movements were an absolute delight to watch. Our children have such an incredible imagination that there is no limit to their play. We had, of course, our usual superheroes - Spiderman and Batman chasing baddies and hiding in secret places in the forest. Our children spent hours engaged in imaginary play, inviting their friends to join in.
Our older children have been incredible role models to the younger ones, and they are always looking after them and including them in their play and activities. They remind their friends of the forest rules if needed, especially “No picking, no licking” and “Stop and come back” if anyone goes too close to a rainbow ribbon. Their kindness and joy are reciprocated by the younger children as they become more settled and more confident in the forest.
Reading has been, as always, one of our children’s favourite things to do. They look for books independently, they read to their friends, and they absolutely adore listening to the educators do funny voices and bringing the characters to life! On our wild cooking day this week, the children mixed some ingredients to make a gingerbread man! And what a wonderful way to learn about the ingredients, measuring and tasting different flavours! Followed by the story of the ‘Gingerbread Man’, no less!
Have a fabulous weekend and we will see you all next week at parents evening!
