Our second week back in the forest started pretty chilly and all of our educators and children have been working together to keep ourselves warm, happy and healthy. At Morden we really appreciate moments like this as we get to see more than ever how amazing and resilient our little adventurers are. Play stops for nobody! The forest has been a dental surgery, hair salon, hospital and breakfast cafe, all before lunchtime.
Now it’s the spring term, our older Little Forest Folk-ers have been really enjoying practising their writing with letter tracing, join the dots and card making. Sometimes the gloves come off for those fine motor activities before going straight back on. All the children have been so good at taking responsibility for themselves and know how important it is to wear their gloves and hats in the cold.
But of course, our main focus has been on gross motor skills and physical development activities to keep our little adventurers warm as they race around the forest. This has been a great opportunity to do our maths and literacy on the move. We’ve had children hunting for the hidden letters around the forest and then running their own hunts for each other! And obstacle courses have been a fantastic way to practise our number recognition, order and counting as the children construct their own numbered adventures.
Amidst all this we also kickstarted our eco-schools project this week, forming a committee with the children to do our bit for the environment. Stay tuned...
Of course, at the end of the day we have our lovely indoor space where we can warm up with a cosy story time and a bowl of hot dinner. There’s nothing better after a big day of outdoor play!
