Morden - Teamwork makes the dream work!

Teamwork makes the dream work!

Our forest explorers at Morden have been so creative this week, both with their crafting activities and their imaginative games they’ve been playing with each other! Last week, we tried our hand at leaf printing, which has been one of the children’s favourites! We’ve continued this activity to offer it to children who might not have had the opportunity last week, as well as using lots of different forest treasures for our prints, like sticks, hay, and even some seeds! The children were much more independent with this activity this week and were able to remember the process of how we made our prints with a little bit of support from the educators. The mixing of colours and nature has been so cool to see, and even better to see the faces of the children when they first pull back their sheet of paper to reveal their print!

As we’ve already got so many super strong climbers with us in the forest, we decided to give them an extra challenge to climb across, so we’ve set up some wobbly ropes between the trees! The children have been holding on tight to the top rope, and walking their feet across the bottom rope, trying their best not to wobble to the ground! They have been encouraging each other and being so supportive if someone falls, always having a big giggle when they hop back up again!

Our cooking activity this week has been something super simple, but always super delicious; roasted apple slices! Everyone came to the fire circle and took responsibility for their wooden skewer and held it over the fire two-by-two with the support of our educators. It’s wonderful to see how focussed the children become when they arrive at the fire circle, and how they look out for each other by reminding their friends of the rules of the fire circle. The children waited super patiently for their apple slices to cool down before eating them, and we loved how mushy and sweet they tasted!

Our forest explorers have been developing their teamwork skills in the forest this week, especially while playing Fire Engines with a super big group of us! The children would gather around in our sheltered “fire station” and take turns pretending to use the walkie talkie as a phone answering the 999 calls and telling the others where the fire had started in the forest so that we could put it out with our hose! It was brilliant to see the children wait patiently to hear what their friends had to tell them, even though everyone was excited to share their ideas, they noticed that others were talking with a little help from the educators and made sure everyone had a fair turn!

We hope you have a wonderful weekend, and we’ll see you next week for more fun in the forest!
