Our Morden Forest has been looking so beautiful with all the sunshine we’ve been having this week! Our children always love taking opportunities to care for our forest and look after the plants and life in our space. They will even independently find the watering cans and get to work on giving the growing plants a drink! It’s also a great opportunity to cool down running through the water! The children will see how fast they can run through the “rainstorm!” and splash in the little puddles that appear! We always crave puddle jumping, even on sunny days! As the water gets sprayed in the air, the children will keep watch for the rainbow that appears through the water “There’s the rainbow! Make a wish!”
We also love using the water in our imaginative play, bringing pots and pans of water over to the mud kitchen to get cooking dinner or a big pot of tea! We gather our plates and cups, ready to share out to our friends, and invite the educators to sit down with us.
One morning in the forest, the children decided to dig a riverbed near the mud kitchen, which became a real centre for their imaginative play throughout the whole day! When the children finished digging the riverbed, we had buckets of water being brought over to fill the river. The children realised that the water was soaking into the ground too quickly, so they started to collect sticks and stones to lay in the riverbed so that the water would take longer to soak into the ground! Once the river was flowing, the children then moved onto building a bridge over the river to make it across safely! They used pallets and logs to keep it all steady and experimented with where they were being placed to make sure it was as sturdy as possible and safe to cross! It was amazing to see them working together and looking after each other to know that their bridge was safe and sound.
Have a lovely weekend all!
