This week in the forest we have been all about stories! We started with a classic bear hunt with Charlotte and all the children loved repeating all their favourite lines, “We can’t go over it, we can’t go under it, we’ve got to go through it.” Then we went on our very own story scavenger hunt. The children each took a tub labelled with the natural materials we needed to find. On our hunt we sought out some long grass, some cold water, some sticky mud, some stumbly sticks and some snowflakes (although we made do with grains of rice!) Then our Little Forest Folk-ers got together to make their own sensory journal of the adventure. We really loved sticking the materials down on the page to catalogue where we’d been.
Later in the week our little adventurers worked with Educator Robyn to make their own stories. They took great pride in drawing out pictures and explaining the who, the what and the where. The results were very exciting.
Our project this week has also brought some storyland magic into our forest with a gorgeous sign, which featured all our favourite magical book settings like Pixie Hollow, Hogwarts, Pooh Corner and Wonderland! Along with Kitz and Sarah, the children were involved in every step from sawing the planks, sanding them down, painting them, and finally nailing the whole thing together. All our Little Forest Folk-ers should be very proud and we can’t wait to set it up in our story corner in the forest!
