Morden - "It's the Gruffalo Cave!"

As 2023 comes to an end we’ve been feeling very thankful for our time together in the forest. This year has been a blast.

We started the week lighting our menorahs with coloured felt and learning a bit about Hanukkah and the children who were celebrating it last week. Some children even made some candles with paper and flames of dried pine leaves which we used on our tables for our dinner by candlelight.

And of course, we were very thankful for the gingerbread left over from the Little Forest Folk Festive party which our adventurers really enjoyed decorating.

But as well as tasty treats to feed ourselves, our Little Forest Folk-ers have also been giving back, by making bird friendly decorations out of apples and seeds which can be enjoyed by our wildlife and then compost down to feed our forest.

With the absence of snow this festive season, we decided it was time to make our own, with a winter wonderland sensory activity where children sprinkled the “snow” over the pinecones, stones and fir branches we’d found in the forest. Some added wooden blocks also turned this into a small world kingdom “It’s the Gruffalo cave!”

We may not have had snow… but we certainly had some gales! Even though the weather brought a lot of wind this week, the children were all smiles outside at the front of our forest away from any snapping branches.

We’re so proud of all our little adventurers and can’t wait to see them back from their well-deserved holidays. We are sending all of our best wishes for the festive season!
