It’s been a sunny half term! It’s been lovely having the holiday campers with us this week, this has encouraged our adventurers to explore new words and a range of vocabulary!
On the days that have been sunny ☀️ the most predominant conversation has been the topic of bees who visit the flowers! The children have been observing and commenting on the bees’ journey from flower to flower 🌸 They get fascinated by the importance of protecting the flower patio. “If we step on the flowers that will stop them from growing!” ‘The bees can’t make honey if they don’t eat the flowers!’ We have also noticed that the crocuses shut when they are in the shade and bloom open when the sun is out. This has encouraged conversations of what flowers need to ‘eat’ to survive. ‘Sunshine!’ ‘Water!’ ‘Air!’ ‘To help the forest grow!’
The jungle path has imaginations running wild as the adventurers love to crawl through leafy tunnels and climb over twisting tree roots! ‘Let’s hide in our tree house from the dinosaur!’ ‘We don’t pick the berries, the dinosaurs need them.’ The children are encouraged to crawl through and bend down. We have been keeping an eye on any new shoots or flowers! This has led to lots of inspections of logs, rocks and trees. We have found a LOT of bugs this week. Bug hotels have been very popular with some children designing bridges, bedrooms and kitchens for their bugs to enjoy!
Valentine’s Day was beautiful! We had a card making station where many practised the heart shape. Scrumpled tissue papers that were ‘mummy’s favourite colour!’ Many signed their card by drawing the outline of their hand or mark making their ‘signature.’ We also made lovely flower bouquets 💐 from Sarah’s flower shop. The creations could be trimmed to size, arranged and sorted into little bunches of their choice and many flaunted them around the forest 🌳 Maria helped to make little plaques that said I ❤️ you by using string and PVA glue to form a heart shape!
Lastly we enjoyed snapping some breadsticks into a heart shape and gluing together with some icing! ‘Sticky icing is like glue!’ ‘I have a big heart.’ ‘Hearts are red!’
Today we have been making Tzatziki in the forest!
Have a lovely weekend 🌱 See you all next week!
