Morden - Golden Gorilla Apples

As the week closes, we celebrate what has been Morden’s first full academic year since opening, and what a year it has been! This week we say bye to many of our children who started with us when we first opened, and how fitting to put them through one final challenge of a record-breaking heatwave. As always, our Little Forest Folk-ers rose to the challenge and took the heat in their stride. Drinking lots throughout the day and getting soaked by the sprinkler and hose!

We also had an exciting imaginative story develop mid-week, focused on Jade venturing into the dense rainforest of Morden to retrieve special “Golden Gorilla Apples” which she then returned, juiced, and gave to the children! It was quite the adventure where she met an “elephant”, a “snake” and a “black panther”, as suggested by the children! Jade returned with a tray full of deliciously cold golden apple juice for us to drink which was a welcome respite from the heat. This then developed into a visit from said gorilla, in the form of a quick painting on cardboard from one of the educators. The gorilla was hiding in the tree, and we suggested maybe we needed to get some bananas for him. So off we went to collect some bananas... but on our return he had vanished! Anyway, a little bird had told us a show was about to start at the puppet theatre and to our surprise it was the gorilla ready to tell us a story. Interestingly he had a Scottish accent, so he must have been one of those rare Scottish gorillas and the children found it all very entertaining. It was a lovely example of how an idea sparked by the children can progress throughout the day and become a fantastic adventure!

To all our leavers this week, it has been an absolute pleasure looking after you and getting to know all our lovely families. We do hope you return during holiday camps, and we wish you all the best at your new schools! Lots of love from the LFF Morden team!
