Morden - Dino Town!

Dino Town!

As we came into the forest this week, we found a super cool dinosaur town set up for us to explore! We have lots of little wooden houses that have been set up in one of the activity boxes, with ramps and tunnels for the children to put in different places! Dino town was very popular, lots of children using their teamwork skills to make sure their friends had enough space to reach the dinos and cars around.

Our explorers have been really enjoying the regular fire circles in the last few chilly weeks, and we’ve been so lucky to be able to begin teaching the children how to make their own sparks using the flint lighter, and how to safely start their own little flame with cotton wool! The children knelt safely at the logs and practiced using their strong grip to push the steel along the flint rod. The children have such a wonderful understanding of staying at their logs and walking safely around the edge to keep a safe distance from the flame. They seem so proud when they make their own spark with the support of a teacher, and with a little more practice and some stronger hands, they’ll be able to make their sparks independently!

When we came into the forest one morning this week, we were so excited to find spider webs made from woollen yarn woven through the tree branches! The children spent the morning looking through the trees and webs to find insects and started pretending to be flies stuck in the webs! The flies would chase each other through the trees and get caught by the giant teacher spiders!

One of our favourite activities this week has been playing basketball! Some buckets were tied to the tree branches, and the children would throw their footballs into the buckets! There was a bucket high up in the tree, and some places in a line on the ground to see who could throw the highest, or the longest! There was lots of sharing, turn taking, and encouraging each other to keep trying when we found it a little hard! It’s been so lovely to see the children’s relationships growing so strong as they work together with new activities.
