Morden - Blossoming Friendships Within The Forest

What a creative and fun filled week we’ve had with our holiday camp week! We always welcome new faces and love to support blossoming friendships within the forest 🌳 We have been so lucky to have an adventurous group that are ready and eager to join in with all forest activities!

We have kicked off the week with a number hunt in which we used sensory sparkly numbers to hide around the forest. This was a popular activity this week as it encouraged us to work together. We practised taking turns as one adventurer would hide the numbers and the group would search within a time limit to gather them back to a table. Once they were gathered, we would sort the numbers from 0-9. “Are we missing any numbers?” “I see 1, 2 .. we are missing 3!” This was modified during the week where upon finding a number we would jump the value of the number! What number is this? “We have to jump 7 times!”

We enjoyed and discovered the mysteries of cornflour. Filling a tray with water, cornflour and pink colouring we discussed liquids and solids. This sensory experience had our adventurers in awe as hitting the surface appeared to be solid but upon picking it up, “It pours like water!” “It’s slime?” We used our hands to hit, scrape and mash and our fingers to mark-make. We saw letters, numbers and shapes within the mysterious gloop which our adventurers raced to identify!

We were gifted some cooking apples this week! We put these to use with our little chefs eager to chop and shape the apples. Once chopped and laid on a tray we used a shape cutter to choose and identify which shapes we would like to stamp onto paper. “This star is my favourite it should stamp yellow.” We created a medley of shapes mixing yellow and blue. “We are making blue sky, yellow stars and green trees!”

We also used some of our crayons in a pestle and mortar to make and use personalised paint. We chose colours to grind and mash, adding a little water to create a paste and paint consistency. “Pink and purple what does that make?” “It’s a light purple it looks like magic dust!” This led to many casting spells 🪄 Mixing potions and fighting off witches!

We’re looking forward to more enchanting play next week! See you then!
